Ferromagnetic Material Handling | Can lifting magnets handle them all?

Do you know ferromagnetic material?

We already know that only ferromagnetic materials can be handled by magnets. Because they include the elements iron, nickel, and cobalt, and their alloys, some alloys of rare-earth metals, and some naturally occurring minerals such as lodestone. The majority of other metals such as gold, silver, copper, aluminum, tin, lead, titanium, etc. are not ferromagnetic and therefore cannot be adsorbed by electro-permanent magnets. For ferromagnetic material handling, we need to consider different material characteristics when choosing a lifting magnet.

What about one electro-permanent magnet for different ferromagnetic materials?

We want to handle different-sized workpieces with different materials with electro-permanent magnets. Then we need to know exactly whether the materials can be magnetically conductive, and how magnetically conductive can they be. For example, in oil mines, chemical plants, or environmental protection pipeline manufacturing enterprises, people face such working conditions more often.
There are a variety of materials. And we usually have to take into account corrosion, rust, and other issues. For example, there will be carbon steel pipes, seamless steel pipes, stainless steel pipes, etc. Here focus on stainless steel pipe, because stainless steel is divided into martensite and austenite. And martensite is magnetically conductive, while austenite is not. So if the stainless steel pipe belongs to martensite, it means that the lifting magnet or magnetic gripper of an industrial robot can handle it.
Take CR13 stainless steel as an example, the quenched state of cr13 stainless steel is martensite, which retains chromium and carbon. So it is ferromagnetic. However, due to its carbon content, the magnet loses some of its magnetic force when adsorbing the CR13. Therefore, we will increase the magnetic force when designing the electro-permanent magnet.
